Bangor fans determined to play part in club's future

A number of concerned Bangor supporters have formed a steering group in an attempt reverse the club's ailing fortunes.

The Clandeboye Road outfit were relegated to the third tier of Irish League football at the end of last season after failing to successfully complete their Championship Licence application before the March 31 deadline.

It saw the Seasiders fall out of Championship One and demoted to the newly-introduced Premier Intermediate League.

It is a colossal blow for the 98-year-old club who are now faced with the prospect of trying to climb their way back up the divisions.

A spokesperson said the steering group had been organised in response to concerns of Bangor supporters.

Reflecting on the club’s relegation from Championship 1 to the Premier Intermediate League, the group said: “This could have easily been avoided, especially if the board had been organised, and accepted help from concerned supporters.

“Now we want to stop the rot and safeguard the future of our club before it is too late.”

The steering group – which includes club directors – is currently drafting a strategic plan outlining how it wants to take the club forward into the future.

One of their key objectives is to secure Premiership football within five years, while ensuring Bangor progresses as a community-based club.

The spokesperson added: “Because of the turmoil of last season, the steering group has drawn up a strategic plan and we will present this to Bangor FC supporters to consult on our vision.

“We want a new direction for the club with the aim of taking the team back to top level football.”

A meeting to present the strategic plan to Bangor supporters will take place at the British Legion Hall, Hamilton Road, Bangor on Tuesday,May 31 at 7.30pm.
