Cliftonville stalwart George McMullan relishing Testimonial clash with Celtic

The Hoops will visit Solitude on Monday, April 11 to help pay tribute to Cliftonville’s long-serving captain.

McMullan made his debut in a 2-0 win over Ards on January 12, 2002 and is the most decorated player in the history of the north Belfast club.

The versatile midfielder was a major influence in Cliftonville’s back-to-back Premiership title wins.

He also has four League Cup medals and four County Antrim Shield honours to his name and has scored 102 goals in 536 appearances for the club.

“To have played for Cliftonville once was a dream come true, but to have been here for so long and won so many trophies has been amazing,” McMullan admitted.

“I was proud to be rewarded with a Testimonial Year and the news that Celtic are coming over to play us is unbelievable – it’s hard to put into words what it means to me.

“I’m grateful for all of the hard work that has been put in by both clubs to make this happen and it goes without saying that my Testimonial Committee have been brilliant for me from start to finish.”

Reds chairman Gerard Lawlor added: “Not only has George been a loyal servant and one who has made a valuable input to the trophy triumphs we have enjoyed in recent times, but his performances over the years have epitomised absolutely everything you would come to expect from someone who lives and breathes Cliftonville.

“It’s only fitting that one of the biggest football clubs in the world will be joining us as we pay tribute to his talent, dedication and successes.”
