News of Haveron’s decision to quit the Danske Bank Premiership outfit emerged on Monday but it is understood he had signalled his intention to walk away from the club on Friday evening. His assistant, Steven Mills, has also left his role.

Haveron, a former Ballymena United and Coleraine favourite, took over from Michael Hughes as manager at Taylor’s Avenue in September 2013.

In his first full season in charge he guided the Gers to a memorable treble, winning the Championship 1 title, the Intermediate Cup and the Steel and Sons Cup.

Having secured promotion to the Premiership the Larne native kept Carrick in the top-flight, steering them to a 10th-place finish thanks to a dramatic last-gasp win over Ballinamallard United on the final day of the campaign.

The club released the following statement this afternoon: “The Board of Carrick Rangers FC can announce that we have accepted the resignation of manager Gary Haveron and assistant manager Steven Mills.

“Following discussions between the Board and the management team, we were unable to establish a mutual agreement on the best way forward for the club.

“We would like to put on record our sincere thanks to both Gary and Steven for their efforts in helping Carrick Rangers achieve success over the course of the last two and a half years, including a historic treble in the 2014/15 season which meant a return to the Danske Bank Premiership where we finished 10th this season.

“We wish both Gary and Steven well in their future endeavours both inside and outside of football.”
