Friday deadline for Portadown FC appeal decision

Portadown FC will have to wait until Friday to discover if their appeal on being found guilty of two rule breaches, was successful.

The Irish FA Appeals Committee were presented with fresh details, from the club, to defend its position as it is held in account of fielding an ineligible player.

A club statement insisted: “Portadown officials presented fresh evidence to an IFA Disciplinary Appeals Panel tonight in Belfast. The meeting has just ended with no decision due for two or three days.”

Portadown were originally slapped with a £10,000 fine and a ban on signing players on professional contracts until June 1, 2017.

Warrenpoint Town, who face a genuine fear of relegation if Portadown win their case, and are not deducted points for every game Tim Mouncey appeared in, have already said they will seek legal evidence.

The IFA confirmed they had seen evidence supporting the club’s appeal and would take time to consider it.

“A full written decision will be issued on Friday,” a spokesman said.

A previous statement had been released by the club to suggest they had robust evidence to rule out financial foul play.
