He also earned 39 caps for Northern Ireland where he played alongside Linfield boss David Healy.

“I’m delighted to be able to advise our supporters that Sammy Clingan has today signed a contract with the club for the 2016/17 season,” Blues manager Healy told the club’s official website.

“He’s a footballer I’ve always admired, having played with him at international level and I think he’s earned 39 senior caps, as well as having played for Northern Ireland at under 17, under 19 and under 21 level.

“The signing of Sammy adds to the competition levels within the squad and I’m really looking forward to working with him in the season ahead. The experience he will add to our squad will be very welcome and I know he can’t wait for the new season to start.”
