Michael O’Neill has drafted in uncapped MK Dons midfielder Ben Reeves for next month’s friendly against Cyprus.
Reeves - who was previously with Southampton - qualifies for Northern Ireland through his grandmother.
The 22-year-old has netted 10 times in 31 appearances this season, prompting O’Neill to take a closer look at the versatile player.
“I’ve known en was eligible for the past 12 months or so - probably since he was at Southampton,” O’Neill said.
“He has impressed this season with MK Dons and he can play in a number of positions. The fact he can score goals is also a bonus.
“Ben is rebuilding at MK Dons now, playing well and scoring goals from midfield, so we thought it would be a good opportunity to bring him in.”
Reeves is part of a 22-man squad for the March 5 friendly in Nicosia, but key men such as Jonny Evans (injured), Chris Baird (unattached) and Aaron Hughes (personal reasons) won’t make the trip.
Pat McCourt returns to the panel after gaining regular game time with Barnsley in the Sky Bet Championship, while Rangers striker Dean Shiels is also included.
Palermo forward Kyle Lafferty also returns to the squad.
Northern Ireland have two more friendlies - in Uruguay and Chile - before the start of Euro 2016 qualification, where they face Greece, Hungary, Romania, Finland and the Faroe Islands in Group F.
