Warrenpoint seek clarity over Carrick boss Gary Haveron's dugout ban

Warrenpoint Town are hoping to discover on Monday if they can appeal their relegation from the Danske Bank Premiership.

It was reported over the weekend that Carrick Rangers risk being deducted points after manager Gary Haveron inadvertently failed to serve part of a touchline ban during a 3-1 win over Dungannon on April 23.

The penalty for a player or manager failing to serve a suspension is a minimum £350 fine and the forfeiting of the match on a 3-0 scoreline.

If found guilty Carrick – who secured Premiership survival with a dramatic 2-1 win over Ballinamallard United on the final day of the season – could suffer automatic relegation.

Warrenpoint said in a statement that the club would be “seeking information and an update from NIFL” on Monday.

The issue has also thrown the Premiership promotion/relegation play-off between Ballinamallard United and Institute into question.

Meanwhile, Warrenpoint have also engaged a legal team and asked NIFL to investigate an “eligibility matter”, believed to involve the Irish FA’s recent fine and transfer ban on Portadown.

“At this stage, we have written to NIFL asking them to investigate,” the Milltown club said in a statement.

“The club cannot make any further statement on this matter at this time but will update as things progress.”
