Whitey up for relegation battle

Ballinamallard United boss Whitey Anderson insists his team's top fight status is now in their own hands.

The Ducks have plummeted to within one point of basement team Warrenpoint Town and, with a massive Danske Premiership showdown at Shamrock Park with Portadown looming tomorrow, Anderson knows every point is now vital.

“We’ve been really unlucky in our last three games,” claims Whitey. “We played the top three teams in the league, but had nothing to show for our efforts. I thought we deserved something from our game at Windsor Park. Either side of that, were were beaten by last minute goals by Glenavon and Crusaders.

“The Crusaders one was hard to stomach because they got the winner in the last 10 seconds. We didn’t get any points from those matches, but there were a lot of positive points to take form the games.”

Even with the threat of relegation, following allegations of improper payments – an that issue that will be dealt with by the IFA next Monday – Anderson stresses the Ports will be determined to dig themselves away from the drop zone.

“They have a lot of quality in the dressing room, but have somehow been dragged into the bottom four,” he added. “We have to focus on ourselves.

“I’m confident we have the players to keep us in the Premier League."

Goalkeeper Alvin Rouse is still missing after braking a bone in his foot, while Anderson will be without James McKenna, who is suspended.
