The scoreless draw at Clandeboye Park was probably a better result for Ballinamallard United then it was for Ards, as the home side took a step closer to relegation.

If Warrenpoint Town can beat Dungannon Swifts at Stangmore Park on Saturday afternoon then Niall Currie’s men will be condemned to last place.

Due to the unusual promotion chase at the top of the Championship, Ards will not know their fate for another few weeks, but their future is now out of their hands.

The Mallards may well be happy with this hard earned point. They’re now four points ahead of Warrenpoint in the battle to avoid a potential play-off.

The Red and Blues squandered a host of chances in the opening half an hour at Clandeboye Park, as Ballinamallard made a slow start.
