An outstanding display by Banbridge goalkeeper Stephen Cairnduff kept the Championship side in the game until near the end.
Cairnduff made a string of fine saves throughout the 90 minute to keep the Premier outfit at bay but they still lost 3-0.
The Ferney Park side will get a number of plusses from this cup game. The return to the starting line-up of midfielder Stuart Hutchinson and a debut goal by Richard Lecky.
Ballinamallard worked hard to create openings in the first but were denied time after time by the brilliant reflexes of Cairnduff.
The breakthrough came two minutes before the break when Hutcinson was brought down on the edge of the penalty area. Campbell’s low driven kick was drilled just inside the post to put the home side one up.
Ballinamallard continued to creat the chances in the second half, but Campbell and Steve Feeney were denied a place on the scoresheet by the Banbridge netminder.
Midway through the second half the did get a second.
This time it was Campbell’s close control in the corner which carved out the opportunity. A great pull back into the path of Jason McCartney saw the winger slot nicely past Cairnduff.
Balliamallard made it three just before the end. Cathal Beacom’s long diagonal ball found full back Gary Phair who got to the byline and pulled a great ball back for Lecky to drill home at the near post.Show trimmed
