Ballinamallard United end long wait for victory with 1-0 win over Dungannon Swifts

WELCOME WIN: Mallards boss Whitey Anderson

WELCOME WIN: Mallards boss Whitey Anderson

DUNGANNON 0 BALLINAMALLARD 1

Ballinamallard United ended a month-long wait for a victory as Craig Hill’s late, late strike snatched the points at a rain-lashed Stangmore Park.

An uneventful Tyrone-Fermanagh derby looked set to finish scoreless after a lacklustre 90 minutes which was high on effort and commitment but low on attacking quality.

But as the game entered the 93rd minute, Hill finished off a counter-attack from the visitors with a well-placed finish into the bottom corner.

Dungannon boss Darren Murphy was sent off after reacting angrily on the touchline.

It was a dramatic end to an otherwise disappointing derby.

Ballinamallard’s best chance came late in the first half when Leon Carters’ header struck the upright following a Chris Curran corner.

At the other end Alvin Rouse made a brilliant save to push away Ryan O’Neill’s free-kick.

Johnny Topley rattled the crossbar with a late 20-yard snapshot while Dungannon also had furious appeals for a penalty turned down.
