Brawl oversahdows Dugannnon’s draw with Linfield

DUNGANNON SWIFTS 1 LINFIELD 1

Linfield’s stuttering start to the new campaign continued after they were held by Dungannon Swifts on Saturday.

A stoppage time strike from Joshua Cahoon denied the champions victory on a dramatic afternoon at Stangmore Park.

Earlier, a 14th minute wonder strike from David Armstrong had given the Blues the lead.

The defender showed all the technique of a forward as his 20-yard effort rocketed into the top corner.

Goalkeeper Niall Morgan made several terrific saves to keep Dungannon in the game at the start of the second half.

Linfield saw Billy-Joe Burns sent off in stoppage time for an off the ball shove.

The game ended in chaos as players from both teams got embroiled in a mass brawl. Terry Fitzpatrick and Armstrong were both sent off for their part in it.

DGN SWIFTS: Morgan, R O’Neill, Montgomery, McMinn, E Friars, Harpur (Fitzpatrick, 46), Hutchinson, S Lavery, S Friars (C Lavery, 46), S O’Neill (Cahoon, 80), McKerr

Subs not used: Topley, Brennan

LINFIELD: Blayney, Armstrong, Murphy, Henderson, Curran (Fordyce, 82), Thompson, Burns, Garrett (Mulgrew, 71), Ervin, McCaul (Carvill, 71), Quinn
