Brian McCaul has returned to Mourneview Park after signing a one-and-a-half-year deal with Glenavon on Thursday night.
McCaul enjoyed a successful loan spell with the Lurgan Blues during the second half of the 2011/12 season – scoring 13 goals to help them avoid relegation in the Premiership.
He finished as Linfield’s top scorer last season, but has found regular first-team action hard to come by at Windsor Park this term.
“We are absolutely delighted to get Brian on board,” Glenavon boss Gary Hamilton said.
“I know what I am getting with Brian. He had a great spell with us a couple of years back, and he scored the goals to help us stay up.
“He is an attacking midfielder who can score and he can also set up other players.”
McCaul was on the wanted list of a number of Premiership clubs, including Glentoran, Ballymena United and Coleraine.
“He is a quality player who any club would like in their squad,” Hamilton said.
“It is great that he has shown such loyalty to Glenavon.”
Hamilton hopes to have McCaul available for tomorrow’s Irish Cup tie with Sport and Leisure Swifts.
