CHAMPIONSHIP: Larne boss to step aside

Larne manager David McAlinden is set to leave his post at the end of the season.

The former Glenavon and Cliftonville defender took over the helm of the east Antrim side in 2013.

He met with club chairman Archie Smyth on Thursday evening and informed him of the decision to step aside in the summer.

“David has been with the club for the last three and a half years, during which time he has worked extremely hard to improve all aspects of the playing side, but now feels that it is time to move on,” said Smyth.

“He will be a massive loss to Larne FC and he will be sorely missed by the club and fans alike.

“We now have to start the process of recruiting a new manager and we all wish Davy every success in his future endeavours.”

Larne narrowly missed out securing a top half position before the split in the Championship season. They currently sit ninth in the table and travel to face Lurgan Celtic on Saturday afternoon.
