Cliftonville manager Tommy Breslin is urging his boys to transfer their away form into Saturday’s Danske Bank Premiership clash with Glenavon at Solitude.

Since their opening day blank against Glentoran, the title holders have enjoyed wins on the road at Portadown and Institute.

Breslin now wants his team to get their title defence up and running in front of the Red and White Army.

“We were not all the impressive last week, but still picked up full points, which says a lot about the squad,” said Breslin. “There are games that you can win with flair and there are games that you must grind out - we did that at Institute.

“We led twice, but fair play to them, they came back at us. Credit to our lads, they kept plugging away and stole it right at the death. We were sloppy enough at times, but it’s still early in the season to it’s not the time to be too critical. It’s pleasing to pick up six points from two difficult away matches.

“The challenge to the players is to keep it going, although Glenavon will be tough opponents.

“They did well in the summer transfers, bringing in the likes of Bradley and Braniff. On their day they can be deadly.”

Glenavon skipper Kris Lindsay insists his team must bounce back from what was a “poor day at the office” last weekend against Dungannon Swifts, losing 2-0 at home.

“It was an embarrassment, to be honest,” he said. “Not one of us emerged with any degree of credit... we were all awful. We have to take responsibility for that.

“We never got to grips with any situation anywhere in the park and big Liggie (Gary Liggett) ran us ragged.”

“Dungannon fully deserved their win. We just didn’t turn up on the day and the reality is, the score could have been much worse.”

Lindsay added the Lurgan Blues will be ‘pumped up’ for the test at Solitude.

He added. “We’ve had a long hard look at ourselves and there is a massive response required. We lot a lot of people down last week.”
