Record breaker Joe Gormley set Cliftonville on their way to a crucial five-star victory over Glenavon at Solitude on Saturday afternoon.

The striker’s sixth minute opener – his 37th of the season, shattering the Reds’ all-time record – settled any early nerves as the champions stretched their lead at the top of the Danske Bank Premiership to three points with just two fixtures to play.

Though Glenavon threatened in fits and starts, they unable to fashion any clear-cut openings and fell further behind when Martin Donnelly stroked home a free-kick early in the second period.

Defender Marc Smyth smashed home number three before two goals in injury-time wrapped things up – Garrett glancing a header into the net before Donnelly’s second of the afternoon put the seal on things.
