Crusaders manager Stephen Baxter insists his team will be giving Warrenpoint Town the respect they deserve in Saturday’s Premiership clash at Seaview.
The Shore Road boys have catapulted to within four points of table toppers Linfield, courtesy of an unbeaten 10-game sequence, but they’ll be taking nothing for granted against Barry Gray’s basement side.
“They received a lot of praise after their creditable draw up the road at Cliftonville last week, but they have been performing to a high standard all season,” warns Baxter.
“Warrenpoint point made life difficult for us earlier in the campaign – they also drew with Portadown and were unlucky to lose out to Glentoran.
“They are well organised and are fighting for every point, so we’ll need to be a our best.
“We come off the back off a good result against Linfield, even though we had to play the last 20 minutes with 10 men – we perhaps could have won it only for a fantastic clearance off the line by BJ Burns late on.
“We are in a nice little run. It’s important to keep that momentum going.”
Warrenpoint boss Barry Gray stresses his team must show the same appetite that earned them a 1-1 draw at Solitude.
“It’s a similar type of test,” he adds. “If anything, this will be even more daunting because Crusaders are in a winning mode. But it’s important not to let the gap widen at the bottom . . . we must stay in touch with the teams above us.”.
