Crusaders have completed the signing of former Glentoran and Northern Ireland striker Andy Smith.

The 33-year-old – who had been training with the Glens – has joined the Seaview club to the end of the season.

Smith – who last played in the Irish League for Ballymena United – won 18 international caps between 2003 and 2005.

“Stephen Baxter (Crusaders manager) made it clear that he wanted me and they’re a club who are always challenging for trophies,” Smith said.

“There are a lot of good strikers at Crusaders so my first challenge is to get in the team and then hopefully my performances will repay the faith the manager has put in me.”

Meanwhile, Dungannon Swifts have signed Ballymena United striker Gary Liggett on a two-and-a-half-year contract.

The deal has cast doubt on Darren Boyce’s future at Stangmore Park.

Boyce – who is being linked with Ballymena United – could return to parent club Coleraine.
