Warrenpoint eased into the sixth round of the Irish Cup with a comfortable win at home to Championship 2 side Chimney Corner at Milltown courtesy of a Daniel Hughes double.
In truth, it should have been a lot more as the hosts had a plethora of chances to increase their tally and Hughes missed the opportunity to collect his first hat-trick of the season as he saw his 62nd minute penalty saved.
Warrenpoint got off to a blistering start and took the lead after just two minutes when Ruairi Devlin made space down the right hand side and pulled the ball back for Hughes to pick his spot in the bottom left hand corner of the net.
The ‘Point doubled their lead on the hour mark and it was that man Hughes who eventually got his second.
Stephen Moan whipped in a perfect cross from the right and Hughes controlled before slotting into the bottom right hand corner.
