Daniel Hughes’ 62nd minute strike broke the stalemate at Milltown and gave Warrenpoint Town the victory over Irish Cup finalists, Ballymena United on Tuesday.

It was enough to move Town out of the relegation mire.

Warrenpoint’s win takes them above Ballinamallard on goal difference.

It was a frustrating first half for Hughes, a shot striking a post after eight minutes before he squandered other good chances.

Ballymena also created opportunities in an entertaining affair and Jenkins went close with a first-half header while Darren Boyce header over.

Hughes netted for the 13th time this season with a fine 20-yard finish after good work from Stephen Hughes.
