Northern Ireland’s record goalscorer David Healy will relaunch his career at Bury after signing a 12-month deal with the League One club.
Preston had been the leading contenders to sign the 33-year old, but after that deal fell through, he agreed the move to Bury.
The former Leeds, Fulham and Sunderland striker, who left Rangers after they went into liquidation earlier this summer, becomes the sixth signing of the close-season at Gigg Lane, hot on the heels of 19-year old midfielder Shane Byrne, who signed a two-year contract after being released by Leicester.
