The De La Salle team celebrate after winning the School's Cup with victory over St Mary's

De La Salle celebrated victory in the Belfast Senior Cup for the first time since 2010 after earning a thrilling 3-2 win against St Mary’s GS at New Grosvenor on St Patrick’s Day.

In a dramatic contest, St Mary’s drew first blood when Gary Donnelly scored from the penalty spot after Ciaran Seacroft was fouled by Sean O’Hanlon.

However, De La Salle levelled courtesy of a looping header from Nathan Watts and then moved into the lead after Liam McKenna scored direct from a corner to make it 2-1 as half-time loomed.

Chris McGuinness strengthened De La Salle’s grip on the title when he struck on 55 minutes to make it 3-1.

There was drama when Donnelly was fouled and he stepped up to successfully convert his second penalty with four minutes remaining.

With the game delicately poised at 3-2, a frantic finale ensued but De La Salle managed to hold on for a brilliant triumph.
