PORTADOWN 1 DONEGAL CELTIC 0
New signing Gary Twigg started his Portadown career in style by bagging the winner against Donegal Celtic on Saturday.
Twigg got the decisive goal to seal a narrow 1-0 win over the Wee Hoops at Shamrock Park.
The former Shamrock Rovers striker headed home in the 50th minute to bag three Premiership points for the Ports.
Sean Mackle provided the cross for Twigg to kick-start his account at the first attempt.
“It was great to score on my debut but the most important thing was getting the three points,” Twigg said afterwards.
“Portadown have ambition and this should get us closer to the top six which is where we want to be.”
Portadown struggled to kill off Celtic during a tense afternoon at Shamrock Park.
Tim Mouncey did go close with a header that visiting goalkeeper John Connolly headed over the bar.
Ronnie McFall’s side did enough to record an important win which sees them close to within three points of the top six.
