Derry City boss Peter Hutton has hailed the signing of midfielder Philip Lowry as a “fantastic piece of business” for the club.

Former Linfield star Lowry has agreed an 18-month deal with the Candystripes.

He becomes the first signing of new boss Hutton, but will not be available until the July transfer window opens.

“I’m delighted to get him in as Phillip does tick all the right boxes. He’s a young, local dynamic player and has a bright future in the game,” Hutton said ahead of tonight’s trip to Inchicore to face reigning champions St. Patrick’s Athletic (7.45 pm)

He was keen to come here and we’re delighted to get him.”

Lowry joins Michael Gault, Robert Garrett, Mark McAllister, Matt Tipton and Billy Joe Burns out the exit door at Linfield.

“I am delighted it is all done and dusted now, it took a bit of time,” Lowry said.

“Warren (Feeney) wanted me to stay. I spoke to him a couple of times and the terms offered were very good.

“But this was a move I could not turn down – the lure of full-time football and Derry being so close to home for me.

“I will have fantastic memories of my time at Linfield.”
