Derry City pair Dean Jarvis and Aaron McEneff have committed their future’s with their home town club.

Jarvis has signed a new one year deal with the Candystripes, while McEneff will remain at the Brandywell until at least 2018.

Both players have played their part in Derry’s rise up the table this season.

McEneff has scored five goals this campaign, while Jarvis has played well at left-back before moving across to centre-half alongside Niclas Vemmelund in recent weeks and has helped City secure three clean-sheets in their last six games.

Boss Kenny Shiels was happy to get the pair signed up.

“They are two Derry lads which makes it even more impacting. Both of them have had fantastic seasons,” he said.

“One is 23, the other is 21 and they are the ideal type of player that we are looking for in terms of their age and in terms of how they have come on this season. We are absolutely thrilled to bits to get them signed.”

McEneff, who joined the Candystripes in 2015, is happy to committ for another two seasons.

“It’s good to get the contract signed and now I can concentrate on playing,” said the midfielder.

“It is a big commitment but it’s one I’m happy to make and Dean has signed a new contract as well. We have got good players at the club and we have had a good season so far and hopefully we can finish it off well.”

Jarvis is happy his future is sorted and he isn’t left in limbo.

“To be fair this has been my best season so far and I’m just delighted to get something sorted quickly, because the last few times it has been dragged onto January, so like Aaron I’m happy it’s now sorted,” admitted the defender.

“It’s Kenny’s (Shiels) first season in and it was always going to be a two or three year plan to get where we want to be and a few of the boys have signed new deals, so we are planning for the future.

“We have some top quality young players coming through like young (Conor) McDermott, so the future is looking bright.”
