Dungannon Swifts and Ballymena United draw at Stangmore Park

STALEMATE: Ballymena boss Glenn Ferguson

STALEMATE: Ballymena boss Glenn Ferguson

Dungannon Swifts edged a point closer to safety after drawing a blank against Ballymena United at Stangmore Park on Tuesday night.

A game which saw plenty of chances – particularly in the first half – failed to produce a winner with the woodwork and some inspired goalkeeping thwarting either side.

The fixture went ahead after two pitch inspections with Dungannon bringing in specialist draining equipment to clear surface water – but fans were left disappointed by the lack of goals.

Perhaps the result was unsurprising. These sides have now shared 19 draws between them this season.

Ballymena will be more frustrated by the result having hit the woodwork through, Gary Liggett and Gary Thompson, while Dungannon’s Adam McMinn also hit the frame of the goal.

Both sides battled to find a break through goal but goalkeepers Dwayne Nelson and Jonny Curran were equal to anything that came their way.

DGN SWIFTS: Curran, Grieve, Montgomery (Topley, 77), McMinn, Friars, Hazley (PJ Lavery, 48), Cahoon (McKerr, 77), Hutchinson, Harpur, Costello, R O’Neill. Subs not used: C Lavery, Brennan

BALLYMENA UTD: Nelson, Kane, Munster, Rodgers, Vauls, Thompson, Taggart, Jenkins, Teggart (Duffin, 87), Liggett, Dolan (Cushley, 70). Subs not used: Black, Surgenor, McCabe

Referee: Mark Courtney (Dungannon)
