GLENN Ferguson has told his players to “man-up” after suffering the ignominy of Saturday’s 8-0 hammering to Cliftonville.
The Reds ran riot with four goals in each half as they cut through Ballymena United’s porous defence with consummate ease.
Twelve months ago Tommy Breslin’s men scored seven past the Sky Blues in a 7-3 triumph at the Showgrounds.
Fast forward to November 2012 and it was eight unanswered goals that they were celebrating.
For Ballymena boss Ferguson, however, there were no positives to glean from what was a thoroughly miserable day at the office for the Braidmen.
When asked if some of his players needed a comforting embrace following Saturday’s malaise, Ferguson was forthright in his views.
“It is a man’s game. There might be players who need an arm around the shoulder and a wee hug, and be told how good they are.
“But after today’s performance, there aren’t too many being told how good they are,” he said.
“But players shouldn’t need to be told if they are good or bad. When I played I knew when I was good, and I also knew when I was awful.
“I didn’t need someone coming telling me that.
“When I didn’t play well, I went home and had a good think about it and tried to put things right.
“There are boys in my changing room today in the same position.
“If they get dropped next week they can come and knock on my door. They better have a good reason to do it.”
