Flynn keen to retain services of skipper

NEWRY City manager Gerry Flynn insisted he would be pulling out all the stops to keep skipper Richard Clarke at The Showgrounds.

Derry City and Glentoran are believed to have made contact with the Bordermen over the midfielder's future, with Premiership champions Linfield also being linked with the 23-year-old.

Clarke's contract expires next summer, allowing the playmaker to open talks with clubs in the New Year.

But for boss Flynn, he hopes he can entice his star asset to put pen-to-paper on a new three-year deal.

"Richard Clarke is my main priority in the transfer window. If I can get Richard tied up to a new deal then we can start building around him again," Flynn said.

"If we are challenging for trophies then I am confident Richard will stay. He has been here five years but he wants to be challenging, so that's what we have to do.

"He has been fair to me and vice versa, and we are friends. So I don't think he will do anything behind our backs.

"I would like things tied up as soon as possible."
