Former Rangers captain Barry Ferguson admits he has struggled to sleep following his nightmare return to Ibrox.

The Clyde manager watched his team lose 8-1 in the Petrofac Training Cup on Monday night as his former team-mates Kris Boyd and Lee McCulloch fired five goals between them.

Ferguson told PLZSoccer: “It was a very difficult night. I think I’ve had about half an hour’s sleep. I’ve watched it twice.

“We had a chance to go and show that we could play at a higher level. They know they let themselves down and that’s the biggest disappointment.”

Ferguson played a 4-3-3 formation throughout in a bid to attack Rangers but his side were caught on the break for the opener and did score until the last minute.

“In hindsight maybe I could have went and parked the bus but again we would have been playing into Rangers’ hands,” he said.

“If we played the match again I might have played a different way but it’s all about learning.”
