Cliftonville boss Tommy Breslin believes George McMullan and Barry Johnston are both close to returning to first team action.
The influential pair came through Wednesday night’s friendly victory over Larne at Inver Park.
Versatile defender McMullan has been missing since the opening day of the season with a knee injury, while midfielder Johnston picked up an ankle injury against Warrenpoint Town on August 24.
“We played George in midfield to get his fitness up and he came through it, and Barry played the 90 minutes,” Breslin added.
“We play Glenavon on Saturday but it might be a bit soon for those two, but they are gradually building up fitness.”
Club captain Chris Scannell enjoyed a goal-scoring return in the 2-1 win against Larne as he continues to recover from an Achilles injury.
Scannell missed virtually all of last season but recently signed a new one-year deal with the Reds.
“Chris played about an hour and got a goal, so that is encouraging,” Breslin said.
“It is still early days with his recovery, but the signs are positive. If he can get back to 100 per cent fitness then he will play a big part. It is like having a new player. Chris is the club captain and his experience and quality will be a big bonus.”
