Glenavon boss Gary Hamilton looking to bring in loan signings

LOAN STAR: Brian McCaul

LOAN STAR: Brian McCaul

  • by Gareth Fullerton

Glenavon player/manager Gary Hamilton admits he would love the chance to sign another Brian McCaul during the January transfer window.

Linfield midfielder McCaul spent the second half of last season on-loan with the Lurgan Blues.

It was an impressive stay at Mourneview Park that resulted in the 22-year-old signing a new two-year deal with the champions last summer.

Hamilton – whose side travels to Dungannon Swifts in a crunch basement battle on Tuesday night – admits he has a “couple” of irons in the fire with regards potential January signings.

“We are looking to see if we can bring in a young, hungry player on-loan during the January window,” he said.

“We would love another Bru McCaul. He was superb when he came here last season and he was just what we needed. He has gone on to enjoy a good season with Linfield, and a lot of that was down to the time he spent with Glenavon.

“We have to wait and see who is available. Some managers don’t like loaning out their players, but we know the kind of player we want.”

Looking ahead to tonight’s clash against Dungannon at Stangmore Park, Hamilton admits it is a pivotal fixture in their quest for survival.

“Dungannon are just two points below us in the table, so it is a massive game for us,” he added.

“We have played the likes of Linfield, Portadown and Crusaders in recent weeks, but these are the fixtures where we need to start picking up points.

“We don’t want to reach the split and be involved in a relegation dogfight. We need to try and stretch away from the basement, and if we can get a result against Dungannon then that will help us.”
