ARDS 1 GLENAVON 2
Glenavon moved to within a point of leaders Linfield at the top of the Danske Bank Premiership with a resilient 2-1 victory over 10-man Ards on Friday night.
Goals from David Rainey and Kyle Neill secured an impressive win for the Lurgan Blues at Clandeboye Park.
Mark McClellend scored Ards’ reply, with the home side also having Craig McMillen sent off in the first half.
Rainey broke the deadlock in the fifth minute with a superb long-range volley.
McMillen saw red in the 28th minute after clashing with Rainey near the corner flag - referee Ross Dunlop showing the Ards player a straight red card.
Ards levelled matters seven minutes into the second half thanks to lone striker McClelland.
Willie Faulkner and substitute Scott Davidson linked up well to slip in McClellend who controlled the ball before blasting it past John Connolly from just outside the six-yard box.
Glenavon regained the lead in the 73rd minute when McKeown’s throw in was flicked on by Kris Lindsay and drilled home by Neill. Neill’s goal was his third in as many matches.
