GLENAVON have completed the signing of experienced defender Eddie McCallion.
McCallion put pen to paper on a two-year deal following Saturday’s friendly with Duleek AFC.
The 33-year-old played 90 minutes for the Lurgan Blues and impressed manager Gary Hamilton.
McCallion has spent most of his career in the League of Ireland with Derry City – he was given a send-off on Friday night after the Candystripes’ game with Shamrock Rovers at the Brandywell.
“I am really looking forward to the start of my first season with Glenavon,” McCallion – who also spent a season with Blackburn Rovers – said.
“The pitch is superb and the facilities here are excellent and everyone has made me and the family very welcome.
“I want to go on playing football for as long as I am able to compete at the top level and I appreciate Gary giving me the opportunity to do that with Glenavon.”
Manager Hamilton said he was delighted to bring McCallion on board for the new Danske Bank Premiership campaign, which kicks off on August 11.
“Eddie is another good signing for the club,” Hamilton added.
“He is an experienced player and he will add a lot of strength to our defence.
“He is just the kind of player we want at Glenavon and I am delighted we have got him on board.
“I am pleased with the signings we have made so far and we are preparing for the start of the new season.
“We can’t wait to get started.”
