Glenn Ferguson hoping Ballymena United can end derby hoodoo against Coleraine

Coleraine beat Ballymena in the Irish Cup last week

Coleraine beat Ballymena in the Irish Cup last week

  • by Gareth Fullerton

Ballymena United manager Glenn Ferguson has urged his players to banish their derby hoodoo on Saturday afternoon.

The Sky Blues have now gone 12 games without a victory over Coleraine.

Their latest defeat came seven days ago as the Bannsiders claimed a late 3-2 victory to dump United out of the Irish Cup.

This afternoon the two fierce rivals will lock horns once again at Warden Street.

And Ferguson hopes his players can make it 13th time lucky.

“I hope it isn’t anything psychological when it comes to playing Coleraine,” he said.

“My players shouldn’t have a defeatist attitude when they step out in a derby match. They shouldn’t feel inferior.

“We are getting closer to them every time we play them, so hopefully we can finally get over the line and get the win.

“We’ve got to work harder because the harder you work, the more breaks you’ll get.”
