Glenn Ferguson looks for Ballymena United to move on from Mourneview hammering

BOUNCE-BACK: Glenn Ferguson

BOUNCE-BACK: Glenn Ferguson

  • by Gareth Fullerton

Glenn Ferguson has demanded a massive response from his players following last week’s “embarrassing” malaise at Mourneview Park.

The Sky Blues were hammered 7-0 by Glenavon in a one-sided rout in Lurgan.

Ferguson’s side will look to make amends by claiming three points against Donegal Celtic at the Showgrounds on Saturday.

“Last week was totally embarrassing and the players were left in no doubt how angry I was,” Ferguson said.

“We have had heavy defeats before this season, and the players know last Saturday is not good enough for this club.

“I have already said that there will be major changes this summer if players don’t improve their attitudes and performances.”

Ballymena lost 8-0 to Cliftonville and 6-0 to Linfield before Christmas, a record only compounded by last weekend’s collapse to Glenavon.

“We have young players and we’ve also suffered with injuries, but you can’t make excuses,” added Ferguson.

“We have been mentally weak at times and that’s something I need to address in the make-up of the team.

“We can’t keep putting in sporadic performances like that, because if we do then we will end up with egg our face.

“I won’t allow that to happen.”
