Ballymena United boss Glenn Ferguson admits there is no better time to end a poor run of results than against rivals Coleraine – who make the journey to the Warden Street Showgrounds on Boxing Day.
The big Festive derby has caught the imagination of both sets of fans which will ensure a bumper holiday crowd.
United have gone from the ecstasy of winning the County Antrim Shield – their first trophy for 23 years – to the humiliation of three successive defeats against Donegal Celtic, Portadown and Glenavon respectively.
That poor sequence of results had prompted the United chief to ponder a raid in the January transfer window in a bid to bolster his flagging troops.
“We are definitely looking (for players) to add and if it means subtracting to be able to do that, it will be done,” said Ferguson.
“We’ve had three games since the Shield final and haven’t played well in any of them, so if changes have to be made, they’ll be made.
“The players have an ideal opportunity of getting back on track in the big Boxing Day game – there is now better time to end a dreadful run of results.”
Ferguson, has handed 19-year-old Michael Ruddy a new one year contract, even though the defender is currently out with a broken ankle.
“Michael is one of our bright young prospects for the future,” added Ferguson.
United, incidentally, are set to play a friendly in Holland early in the New Year.
The Sky Blues have been invited to face top Dutch amateur side RKSV Leonidas in Rotterdam on Saturday, January 5.
As a result, United’s Danske Bank Premiership home match with Ballinamallard, scheduled for that date, will be played on Friday, January 4 (7.45pm).
