Assistant boss Kieran Harding believes Portadown still have time to make an impact in this season’s title race.
The Ports fell 10 points behind Premiership leaders Linfield following Saturday’s 3-2 defeat at Windsor Park.
Harding admits the Shamrock Park Reds cannot afford to fall further behind, and has declared Thursday’s derby showdown with Glenavon as a “massive” fixture.
“The league doesn’t take shape until the end of January, so we are not giving up,” Harding said.
“There is a festive period where we have another three games to come, and some big games.
“Things will settle down at the end of January, and all we can do is hopefully stay in touch with the leaders and take it from there.
“Boxing Day is a great game to have after Saturday’s defeat. It is a local derby and everyone is looking forward to it.
“Everyone will be fired up, and this is another big game for us. Glenavon will be tough, and so will the other games. But Thursday is massive for us.”
