Hughes accepts full-time position
PERMANENT ROLE: Michael Hughes at Carrick Rangers
MICHAEL Hughes has been appointed permanent boss of Carrick Rangers.
Hughes had been acting as caretaker manager since the sacking of Stephen Small in December.
The former Northern Ireland international – who is majority shareholder at the Taylor’s Avenue club – recently admitted he was enjoying his new role in the Irish League.
Speaking to the News Letter, Hughes said: “I enjoy the training side of things. It can be quite frustrating at times.
“But overall, I think I am enjoying it. And if we survive it will be a great achievement.
“It will be tough to scrape ourselves off the bottom. I think we have a decent side and we have enough to give ourselves a chance, but it is a big challenge.”
Carrick continue to prop up the Carling Premiership following last week’s 3-1 defeat to Ballymena United.
This Friday night they entertain Donegal Celtic at Seaview.
Ironically, DC are now managed by the manager Carrick sacked before Christmas.
Carrick’s board said of Hughes’ full-time appointment: “The board would like to take this opportunity to wish Michael every success in his new role.”
