Ballymena United 1 Dungannon Swifts 4
A double from Andrew Mitchell helped Dungannon Swifts to a 4-1 win against Ballymena United at the Showgrounds.
Mitchell’s brace, a strike from Jarlath O’Rourke and an own goal from Kyle Owens gave the Swifts the three points while United’s only reply came from Leroy Millar.
It was a disappointing afternoon for the Sky Blues, while Dungannon can be pleased with their afternoon’s work.
The home side took the lead in the 13th thanks to a wonder strike from Millar who rifled home from 30 yards for his first goal of the season.
Their lead was short lived however as Dungannon equalised three minutes later through Mitchell.
The striker running clear to push the ball past Ross Glendinning in the United goal.
Rodney McAree’s Swifts could have gone ahead in the 19th minute but Glendinning palmed away a Ryan Harpur chip.
They did make it 2-1 in the 26th minute with O’Rourke shooting home after a pass from Harpur.
The Swifts were looking dangerous and Glendinning did well to deny Harpur and McElroy.
A minute before the break Cathair Friel tried his luck from long range but his effort was easily saved by Stuart Addis.
United had a chance to make it 2-2 in the 66th minute but Kyle Owens missed when he should have scored.
In the 70th minute it was 3-1 to Dungannon as Owens scored into his goal after Mitchell had put the ball across the goal mouth.
United’s day got worse in the 75 minute as Mitchell grabbed his second of the day from a Kris Lowe ball.
And Mitchell could have had his third at the death but his shot was blocked by Glendinning.
