Linfield picked-up three league points as they beat Ballymena United 1-0 at Windsor Park.

Andrew Mitchell with the winner from the penalty spot in the 77th minute, while United's Andrew Burns was shown a straight red after a tackle on Jamie Mulgrew.

Not much happened in the opening 45 minutes as United defended and Linfield probed for an opening.

Two minutes after the break United had a great chance. A Conor McCloskey throw-in was controlled by Kyle Owns. He turned and shot for Linfield keeper Roy Carroll to push around the bar.

In the 56th minute Linfield's Paul Smyth raced clear but be fired his shot just off target.

It was 1-0 to Linfield in the 77th minute as Mitchell fired home from the penalty spot.

Two minutes later United were down to ten men as Andrew Burns was shown a straight red for a foul on Jamie Mulgrew.
