Ballymena United defender Denver Gage is hoping to face his old team Ards in the League on Saturday.

Gage’s United will travel to face Ards looking to pick up their first victory over the Niall Currie-led side this season.

Currie’s men have twice travelled to the Ballymena Showgrounds this year and come away with the spoils.

Gage enjoyed his time with Currie’s side and he is looking forward to taking on his old team-mates.

“It will be a very tough game and I know after playing for Ards that they are very, very good at home.

“It is a great pitch down there and they are just hard to beat at home.

“They also have a good support at home. They are a big side and they are very well organised.

“They will hustle and bustle you and it was be a 50/50 game down there.

“I think I played for 18 months at Ards and I think we only lost twice at home in that time. They have a very good home record and we will have to be at our best.”

And Gage says they will have to keep a close eye on Ards striker Joe McKinney.

“He is very big and raw and he reminds me of Glenavon’s Eoin Bradley.

“He is very raw but he is very effective and we will have to keep an eye on him,” he added.

And Gage says it was good to get back on track against Ballinamallard United after defeats to Glenavon and Ards,

“The boss said ‘scrap the last two games and get the three points’.

“So it was good to put on a good performance and get the three points because there are no easy games in this league.”
