The Shore Road team put the league’s newly promoted side, Warrenpoint Town, to the sword with a blistering 5-1 performance, much to the delight of the home fans.

It was over as a contest by half-time with Jordan Owens, Paul Heatley, Jordan Owens and Gavin Whyte getting in on the scoring act.

Owens was left with time and space after only five minutes to ram home a Billy Joe Burns cross.

Town were punished again six minutes later. This time Philip Lowry’s deliver was superbly headed home by Heatley.

It was all one-way traffic. The game was done and dusted on 18 minutes when Lowry drifted down the right before crossing for Forsythe to ram low into the bottom corner.

Warrenpoint were punished again eight minutes before the break when Declan Caddell was brought down by Liam McKenna inside the box and Whyte made no mistake from the spot.

Surprisingly, the home fans had to wait until the 68th minute for their team’s fifth. Substitute Michael Carvill finished with aplomb after a Forsythe flick.

The Crues striker Owens was taken off after taking a knock to the leg - but he says he should be alright for Saturday’s game against Coleraine.

“The keeper hit me and I had to be careful and come off. There is a big game here on Saturday, so I thought I would come off and get some ice on it and hopefully I will be alright for Saturday.”
