IRISH LEAGUE: Glenavon hit six against Ballymena United at the Showgrounds

Glenavon ran out 6-1 winners against Ballymena United at the Showgrounds.

Goals from Adam Foley, James Singleton,Sammy Clingan,Andrew Hall, Bobby Burns and Andrew Mitchell sealed the win for the Lurgan Blues- but no-one saw this coming as it was scoreless at half-time.

Glenavon had a chance in the 15th minute but James Singleton headed over when he should have scored.

In a first half battered by the wind Ballymena United's Matthew Shevlin had a chance in the 20th minute but his effort was saved by the Glenavon keeper Jonathan Tuffey.

United had another chance just before the break but Shevlin's effort was again stopped by Tuffey to leave it scoreless at the break.

Glenavon took the lead in the 48th minute through Adam Foley. The winger firing home after Ballymena had lost the ball in midfield.

It was 2-0 in the 66th minute as Singleton steered home a corner.

It was 3-0 as Sammy Clingan scored from the penalty sport and it was 4-0 as Andrew Hall curled home a fantastic free-kick in the 72nd minute.

United were then awarded a penalty in the 79th minute and Tony Kane scored to make it 4-1.

But Glenavon were not finished and Bobby Burns made it 5-1 in the 81st minute before Andrew Mitchell added the sixth goal right at the end.
