ANDY Kilmartin will be back in a Lisburn Distillery shirt for tonight’s Carling Premier League clash against Glentoran at The Oval.
The 28 year old, from Downpatrick, has agreed terms with manager John Cunningham – he will remain at New Grosvenor for the remainder of the season.
Fans’ favourite Kilmartin left the club in the summer after failing to negotiate a new contract with Tommy Wright, who subsequently took up an invitation to accompany Steve Lomas at Scottish Premier League side St Johnstone.
The talented former Glentoran midfielder instead opted to join junior club Kilmore Rec.
However, with Grant Gardiner, Mark Patton and Scott Davison forming a queue for the treatment room, Cunningham had no hesitation in luring Kilmartin back to the club.
“We all know what Andy is about,” said Cunningham. “He has been training with us and his fitness is not an issue. We have been badly hit in the middle of the park in terms of injuries.
“Gardiner, Patton and Davison are all a few weeks away for being considered for selection.
“Andy will bring a bit of stability to that department. His experience will also rub off on the young lads around him. We’re delighted he is back.”
Cunningam insists his team have the credentials to plough away from the league’s drop zone.
“We have a few difficult games in the pipeline . . . Glentoran and Portadown,” he added. “But the reality is there are no easy fixtures in this league. We’ve had a few positive results recently. We have clawed our way off the bottom of the table. Our immediate aim is focused on the team above us.”
