Not even David Healy could prevent Glenavon from being thrashed by Leeds United, but Gary Hamilton’s side will take heart from their performance in Wednesday night’s glamour friendly.

The Lurgan Blues look set to pocket a fortune from the game – which was arranged in time for the club’s 125th anniversary – following the transfer of teenager Robbie McDaid to the Yorkshire outfit.

Leeds took a 19th-minute lead. A slip by Andy Kilmartin while he was attempting to make a clearance allowed the ball to fall nicely for Chris Dawson to roll his shot into the net on 19 minutes.

Glenavon gave their Championship opponents as good as they got, and almost pulled level when David Rainey saw a chance go wide from a tight angle after being played a peach of a ball by Tiarnan Mulvenna.

Mulvenna then made way for Healy, who lashed a free-kick straight at Paddy Kenny.

Dawson grabbed a second two minutes into the second half, and he contributed a third just after the hour mark from the penalty spot – Rhys Marshall being found guilty of bringing down Matt Smith.

Smith had time to add a fourth before the night was out, and Eoghan Stokes made it 5-0 on 81 minutes.
