LINFIELD 1 PORTADOWN 0

LINFIELD got their title defence back up and running with a narrow 1-0 victory over Portadown.

Philip Lowry was the match-winner with a well-taken second half goal that settled his clash at Windsor Park.

During an eventful afternoon both teams had a man sent off - Chris Ramsey and Mark McAllister seeing red following an off-the-ball altercation in the 35th minute.

Lowry scored in the 47th minute, finishing Niall Quinn’s corner to break the deadlock.

Linfield should have put the game beyond doubt with three minutes remaining, but David Miskelly saved Michael Carvill’s penalty after Daryl Fordyce had been brought down by Brian Gartland.
