LINFIELD 6 BALLINAMALLARD 0
David Jeffrey has set his sights on another Premiership title before he stands down as Linfield manager at the end of the season.
Jeffrey announced on the club’s website on Saturday that he will leave his post in April.
It will bring the curtain down on 17 stellar years at the Blues helm - an era that as reaped 30 trophies including nine league titles.
The aim is for Jeffrey to bow out with a 10th Premiership crown, and on Saturday the Blues stayed on track with a 6-0 hammering of Ballinamallard United.
Goals from Philip Lowry (2), Matt Tipton, Andy Waterworth, Ivan Sproule and Ross Clarke keeps the Blues one point behind leaders Cliftonville at the top of the table - with Jeffrey’s side also holding a game in hand.
Linfield started brightly and broke the deadlock in the 23rd minute through Lowry.
Tipton fed Sproule down the right channel, and when the winger crossed there was Lowry to bundle the ball home.
It was 2-0 on the half-hour mark with Tipton converting another close-range chance with ease.
Waterworth made it 3-0 on 38 minutes when he raced onto Tipton’s through ball before guiding his shot past Alvin Rouse.
Lowry got his second and Linfield’s fourth in the 60th minute, the midfielder dragging a shot into the bottom corner from 12 yards.
Lowry should have completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot two minutes later when Mark Stafford was adjudged to have handled Michael Gault’s cross inside the box.
Lowry stepped up but was denied by Rouse at the keeper’s right hand post.
It was finally 5-0 in the 67th minute with Sproule unleashing an unstoppable drive from 20 yards into the far corner.
The Blues rampage continued with Clarke firing home the sixth goal in the 72nd minute - the substitute’s shot bobbling over the hapless Rouse.
