Linfield manager David Jeffrey relishing league test with Cliftonville

UP FOR IT: Linfield boss David Jeffrey

UP FOR IT: Linfield boss David Jeffrey

  • by Gareth Fullerton

DAVID Jeffrey insists Linfield will continue going about their business without any fanfare or bluster.

An impressive four-game winning streak – which has seen the Blues score 12 unanswered goals – suggests the Premiership champions are starting to find top gear following a stop-start opening.

Jeffrey is preparing his players for their latest acid test on Saturday afternoon when they travel to league leaders Cliftonville.

The Reds can boast a hefty nine-point cushion over Linfield as the title race continues to gather pace.

It promises to be a tense title tussle at Solitude, and Jeffrey has called on his players to show “grit and character” and emerge with a positive result.

“I have been pleased with our recent form, and the players deserve great credit,” Jeffrey said.

“But we didn’t get too down when things went against us, and we won’t go harping on about our recent good spell.

“What I would say is that the players have shown great character and strength, and also quality. They have responded to what was a difficult situation in terms of results and things not going our way.

“They have stood up and been counted, and they will have to do the same on Saturday.”
