DAVID Jeffrey is hoping endeavour and some goodwill messages can help inspire Linfield as they look to get their season on track.
The Blues’ title defence suffered another knock last weekend as the champions dropped two more points against Glenavon.
It took a late Daryl Fordyce equaliser to help scramble a desperate draw for the Windsor Park giants.
It leaves Jeffrey’s side languishing in the bottom half of the table, and a sizeable 14 points off leaders Cliftonville.
That gap could be reduced to 11 if they can record a welcome victory against Ballymena United on Saturday afternoon – with Cliftonville not in action until Monday night.
“Nobody has to tell the players that they haven’t been playing as well as they can. They know that,” Jeffrey said.
“We know we have to continue putting in the hard work, and the players have been doing that in training this week and they will continue to do so.
“We have taken a lot of encouragement from the messages of goodwill we have been receiving from the supporters.
“The players and staff have been receiving texts this week, and we want to try and give the fans something to cheer about.
“The disappointment runs right through the club. We are all disappointed with the way things have been going.
“Hopefully, the continued support from our fans will help lift us.
“I want to say a massive thank you for all the goodwill messages we’ve received and we will all be doing all in our power, trying to repay our supporters for the great encouragement we have been receiving in countless private messages.”
