Mark Patton’s first hat-trick for Glenavon was the highlight of their 6-0 trouncing over the PSNI.
Ciaran Martyn opened the scoring in the fourth minute, turning in a low Guy Bates cross, before the former Portadown man got his first, finishing off after Bates had rounded Matthew Quinn in the police’s goal.
The game was over as a contest when the third went in. Patton’s free kick was knocked down by youngster James Singleton for Bates to knock home.
Singleton got his name on the scoresheet when he glanced home a Gary Hamilton cross, before Patton scored an exquisite second. A short pass by debutant Shane McCabe allowed the winger to take a touch before curling a shot into the top left-hand corner.
And he rounded off his hat-trick on 72 minutes when a long Hamilton pass forward bounced nicely for him, letting him take a touch to get around Quinn before slotting home.
